Our Company History

Past

Actiform Hire Limited was incorporated in 1984 in West Yorkshire by the current Managing Director and now has three trading operations covering: Siteworks (System Building Services), off site engineered Manufacturing / Construction (Actaccom Limited) and Leasing / Rental / Financial facilities (Actiform Hire Limited). Collectively we refer to these as ‘The Actiform Group’. Prior to 1984, from 1979, the founder operated as a sole trader designing and building off site engineered structures but the growth and the developing customer base made the transition to a Limited Company a logical move.

Actaccom Ltd was incorporated in 1994 to consolidate the manufacturing and contracting activities under a separate banner. It is a wholly owned subsidiary of Actiform Hire Limited.

Manufacture takes place at our Mirfield factory which is conveniently and centrally located for major North-South and East-West communications.

Present

We have a highly motivated management team, a skilled factory and site labour force with zero management staff turnover and well below industry levels for labour turnover.

It is our policy to develop and promote from within wherever possible. This way we ensure that the company ethos is accurately projected.

We have an apprentice scheme within the factory and, as skills develop, we select suitable candidates for training in site skills and ultimately, management. All operatives are trained in the relevant skill disciplines starting with basic Health & Safety training and accreditation and subsequently job specific accreditation.

This, with our loyal customer base, is an exceptionally robust and resilient resource giving the company a strong foundation which has stood us well in times of recession and economic uncertainty.

We have a strong presence in the site accommodation sector supplying administration offices, canteens and shower/welfare facilities on major infrastructure projects.

We are already involved in the HS2 scheme and have had major contracts from the Cross Rail project, Thames Tideway project and major motorway works. Typically these are from £300,000 to £1,250,000 in value and are relatively quick turnover schemes.

This sector provides the base line turnover which in turn supports our longer gestation projects in the permanent build sectors – Health, Pharmaceuticals and Education.

Future

There is a sea change happening in the construction industry. The stigma of ‘Pre-fab’ is disappearing rapidly and there is a growing realisation of the value of off-site construction to deliver cost savings, cost certainty and programme delivery.

Our construction methodology is inherently carbon friendly and is being promoted as such by the industry and opinion makers.

Growth is increasing in the permanent building sector and we are well placed to further capitalise on this trend. Typically, the factory element of our contracts can now account for as little as 25-30% of the total value which enables us to have added value at site level through employing specialist trades for the traditional fit out.

This makes the use of our factory resource more efficient and allows a leverage effect with our existing skill set.

We have a robust order book and future order indicators point to further growth and consolidation.

There are new market opportunities developing in housing, particularly in the ‘affordable’ sector where the speed of construction, minimal site work and factory efficiencies will offer significant cost savings.

Of necessity we are looking to strengthen our site management team now from external recruitment, but we are head hunting people we have worked with rather than advertise. In this way we can identify the managers with the Actiform genes.

As a company we see ourselves as long-distance runners, cautious but ambitious and creative.

All members of our team are proud of what we do. They enjoy being part of the business and understand the need to work together towards a common goal.

Working closely with estates and clinical leads, Actiform supported the design development for the transformation of our clinical emergency care services for the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Harlow. This involved a complete design and build modular construction to complement the creation of a state-of-the-art emergency care service.

Actiform helped us to embrace the opportunities presented by a new modular build clinical space with appropriate technology to create and support a new model of service that responds to changing clinical needs, meets the trust’s corporate objectives, and complies with sector building performance targets that we will need to meet.

The Actiform team mapped out the route to move away from the traditional siloed traditional structures, facilitating the opportunity to adopt a more flexible and adaptable approach to support services that will be complimented by technology, and support our digital clinical strategy development.

The Actiform project team worked ‘hand in hand’ with their design team to create a future focused build that rethinks the way a NHS trust delivers modular construction within a conventional ageing and varied built environment, and that is integrated into the core operation of the hospital. The completed build environment was an integral part of the overall strategy for the new emergency care services.

Pasqualino Risi, Associate director of Estates and Facilities, Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust

The whole team at Actiform provide an outstanding level of customer service. Their knowledge of modular building and taking our design thoughts and turning these working collaboratively into completed projects makes working with the team very enjoyable.

Actiform have a very good network of dependable third-party trades which complement the experience and push the art of the possible in terms of innovation.

Not really sure what you could do better as when we raise issues they are dealt with in a timely manner, and you have good processes to ensure we never experience the same issue twice.

Steve Wilcock, Chief Operating Officer, TAC Healthcare

The service we received from Actiform in acquiring additional modular office space was exceptional. From the initial flexibility around design to meet our needs, through to achieving delivery and install on time was first class. Nothing was too much trouble and the communication throughout the process was excellent, whilst providing a value for money solution.

Steve Preston, Operations Manager, Leeds Federated Housing Association

Having used Actiform to supply a large compound set up on a Smart Motorway project, the service received was second to none. From the initial enquiry to the final installation, all aspects of the project went to plan. The cabin design and layout was revised on numerous occasions and no request or alteration seemed to be too much trouble. All communication, planning and installation was very collaborative and all key dates and deadlines were actually completed ahead of programme.

Corin Feltham in particular offered his wealth of knowledge and experience throughout the process along with introducing some excellent ideas to save both time and money. All in all a good experience working with Actiform and I wouldn’t hesitate to use them again on other schemes.

Dave Wright, Site Agent, Kier Highways

Back in the autumn of 2015 we had a requirement to procure offices and welfare facilities of 3,000m2 plus over 3 floors for our Tideway-East project in Bermondsey, London.

We went out to tender and Actiform provided a construction package that we eventually purchased. Right from the start – sales , tender, design, manufacture, installation and aftercare support, Actiform have been very professional, proactive and suggested cost saving solutions without compromising our facilities. Their site installation team had all the correct RAMS and certification to carry out our installation in a planned and well organised time scale.

From the beginning both parties, CVB JV and Actiform, have worked openly and honestly together and we have an excellent working relationship. I cannot praise Actiform enough and would certainly recommend them to any prospective client.

Gordon Alexander, CVB JV
