Actiform worked in partnership with Ergéa UK, Somerset NHS Foundation Trust and Ridge and Partners LLP to deliver the new £17.8 million Bridgwater Community Diagnostic Centre — the final component of Somerset's Diagnostic Transformation Programme, and a major investment in bringing diagnostic services closer to patients' homes.

Somerset NHS Foundation Trust needed to expand diagnostic capacity quickly — reducing waiting times and relieving pressure on acute hospital sites — without compromising the clinical standards required of a complex healthcare facility. Delivered through Ergéa UK's long-term Managed Service partnership with the Trust, the programme demanded a building that was ready not just structurally, but coordinated around the installation and commissioning of advanced diagnostic equipment to a fixed completion date.

    Challenge

    A conventional linear construction sequence would not deliver the facility within the programme the Trust's transformation plan required.

    Solution

    Actiform manufactured the building off site while enabling works progressed simultaneously on site, allowing key activities to run in parallel rather than in sequence. Site works commenced in October 2025, with the modular building manufactured, delivered and installed between January and March 2026 — establishing a weathertight structure in a significantly shorter period than conventional construction would allow.

    Challenge

    Compressing the programme risked trade conflicts on site and pressure on quality and finishes.

    Solution

    The modular approach enabled internal and external trades to work concurrently and independently, reducing programme conflicts and protecting the critical path. Factory-controlled manufacture provided greater consistency and improved quality assurance, while reducing the duration and intensity of construction activity on site.

    Challenge

    The building and the specialist diagnostic equipment had to be coordinated as a single delivery, not two separate workstreams.

    Solution

    Ergéa UK's Managed Equipment Services model brought infrastructure delivery, medical technology procurement, equipment installation and lifecycle management into one integrated solution. Advanced diagnostic equipment was delivered and installed by early April 2026, allowing testing, commissioning and operational preparations to progress ahead of practical completion and clinical activation.

Collaboration was central to the success of the project. Ergéa UK, Somerset NHS Foundation Trust, Actiform and Ridge and Partners LLP worked as an integrated team throughout design, manufacture, construction, equipment installation and commissioning.

Clear communication, collaborative decision-making and early stakeholder engagement enabled the team to maintain momentum and resolve issues quickly. A shared focus on programme, quality and clinical outcomes ensured the building, services and diagnostic equipment were coordinated as part of a single delivery strategy — creating a strong platform for rapid delivery while maintaining the standards required for a complex healthcare facility.
